Pakistan - Equal citizenship for FATA and GB

The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are home to around five million Pakistanis. Over the last four decades, many born and raised in the region were forced to migrate due to turmoil that was not of their own making.
These women, men and children must have been given all constitutional rights that flow from citizenship of a state the moment these rights were given to Pakistanis in rest of the country. That it did not happen will, and must, remain inscribed in our political history as a travesty of the highest order.
Now that the federal government, the Parliament and unelected state institutions have all recognised the need for ‘mainstreaming’ FATA, it is imperative that the issue should be resolved, as much as possible, in accordance with the wishes of the FATA residents.
Since there is no one forum that can claim to be the true representative of FATA residents, the matter needs to be resolved in consultation with various political and civil society groups that associate with the region. The two broad positions to have emerged so far are (i) FATA’s merger with Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa (KP) and, (ii) a relatively less popular position articulated at the most recent rally on the issue by the JUI-F, seeking a provincial status for the region.
Regardless of which of these positions is finally agreed upon, the need of the hour is to expedite the process of mainstreaming. FATA residents have stayed with this country for 70 years without any of the basic constitutional rights that must be available to all members of a free national community. Let us ensure that the 71st year comes with a departure from this chequered political past. For that to happen, all groups that have raised a voice on the issue — including mainstream parties as well as civil society actors like the FATA Youth Jirga — must be listened to. The final plan must incorporate all legitimate demands, particularly those that stand to benefit marginalised groups like women and economically impoverished tribes and people.
The case of Gilgit-Baltistan isn’t much different either. The people of the region have lately protested an unfair tax regime. They are also demanding their fair share of political representation in the Pakistani federation.
The representatives of the region including political leaders — some of whom have unfairly been incarcerated over the years just for demanding a fair bargain with the federation — and civil society activists must be consulted in drawing a mainstreaming plan for GB. Let’s hope 2018 will end this apartheid that we have chosen to ignore for decades.

Karachi - CM forms committee for reforms in education system

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reiterating his commitment to overhauling exiting education system in public sector has constituted a committee to review the Sindh School Education Standards and Curriculum (SSES&C) Bill and make recommendations for necessary amendments.

He stated this while holding a meeting at the Chief Minister House, said a statement issued here on Monday.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers including Jam Mehtab Dahar, Law Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Principal secretary Sohail Rajput, secretaries Fazal Pechuho and Aziz Uqaili, provincial secretaries Sohail Akbar Shah, Asif Hyder Shah and other officers concerned.
The chief minister said that he has taken a number steps to improve the education system but it seems that the entire system needs to be overhauled and reformed for producing better results. He added teachers are not properly trained, class rooms or schools lack proper facilities and might be there is lack of motivation.
He said that the cabinet has decided to regularize the services of NTS pass contract teachers but the number of teachers working in Sindh are around 150,000 even then education is not improving as per numerical strength of our teaching staff.
Murad Shah said that he has plan to establish a top class professional teachers training academy responsible for designing training programs for teachers. A parallel Curriculum Council would also be established to develop content of the text books according to ground requirements and parallel to the international level.
He suggested to link all promotions and facilities of teachers to their qualifications, trainings and expertise and their professionalism. The teachers who fail to qualify training programs would be taken out of teaching process. The teachers would be given three opportunities to quality each and every course. These in-service courses would be an on-going training process, he said.
Murad also assigned the task to the education department to establish a training academy on PPP/outsource mode with a well reputed organization within next four years. When the academy would start functioning the training programmes would be started.
The chief minister constituted a committee comprising Minister education, Minister law, secretary education, former secretaries education Fazal pechuho, Aziz Uqaili to review the contents of the bill and suggest further improvements to amend them within next seven days. Afghanistan: the new front for Islamic State

By David Pratt

THE top American and NATO commander in Afghanistan has a colourful way of describing what is becoming a real problem.
“It’s like a balloon, we squeeze them in this area, and they’ll try to move out elsewhere,” says General John W Nicholson Jr.
He is of course talking about the presence of fighters from Islamic State who last week claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Shi’ite cultural centre in Kabul that killed 41 people and wounded more than 80 others.
The attack was the latest in at least two dozen bombings on Shi‘ite targets in Sunni-majority Afghanistan over the past two years in a brutal campaign by IS that has killed and wounded hundreds. The IS attacks fly in the face of the reassuring message delivered by US Vice President Mike Pence, during a visit to Afghanistan just before Christmas when he claimed that victory in the country is “closer than ever before”.
“The road before you is promising, but it’s perilous. And this commander-in-chief is clear-eyed about the threats you face and the challenges that lie ahead,” Pence told troops at the US’s Bagram military base. “But today, let me assure you: President Trump has your back.”
Pence’s message though appears to have little resonance on the ground in Afghanistan, where far from being vanquished, IS is gaining ever greater military traction. It was back in 2014 that IS began to appear in what it calls Khorasan - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, Iran and India. In attacking Shi’ite targets like those in Kabul on Thursday, its aim is to stir up sectarian hatred in the hope of undermining an already vulnerable Afghan government. The incremental growth of IS runs in tandem with the already well-established presence of the Taliban, which remains the dominant Islamist militant group operating in the country, and still controls large parts of Afghanistan.
All this is a dual strategic challenge for America’s top commander in Afghanistan General John W Nicholson Jr and the international troops under his command.
Nicholson, a 61-year-old combat veteran described by peers as a “thinker-warrior,” recently insisted that some 1400 operations and airstrikes had “removed from the battlefield” more than 1600 IS fighters since March. It was back in April that the US claimed to have killed more than 90 IS fighters after dropping an 11-ton “mother of all bombs” on a complex of tunnels and bunkers used by IS militants in Nangarhar province in the east of the country. Nicholson along with other military commanders justified the use of the GBU-43 Massive Ordnance Air Blast (Moab) bomb, one of the most powerful conventional weapons in existence, as part of a robust campaign to destroy the IS Afghanistan affiliate by the end of this year. Its force, the commanders said, had been reduced to 700 fighters from 3,000, and its area of operation diminished to three districts from 11.
But as 2017 draws to a close, IS’s presence in Afghanistan appears to be strengthening not weakening.
Following Thursday’s attack in Kabul, Michael Kugelman, a well known specialist on Afghanistan and Pakistan and deputy director of the Asia Programme at the Wilson Centre, said that despite the “relentless” airstrikes, IS’s resilience in Afghanistan is now “quite worrying.”
Kugelman attributes this IS resilience in part to the Afghan terrain, which allows fighters to evade strikes. It is also, he says, a result of a “steady supply of recruits from disaffected” members of the Pakistani Taliban, as well as home-grown radicalisation.”
The analyst also highlighted the scale of the challenge facing US commanders like Nicholson. “Given that the chief US interest in South Asia is stability, the fact that you have rampant instability throughout much of Afghanistan and much of Pakistan as well suggests US interests are very much imperilled in a part of the world where, lest we forget, America has been fighting its longest-ever foreign war for the last 17 years,” Kugelman warned.
Others too have echoed his concerns, among them Russia's special presidential envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, and the Iranian Intelligence Minister, Mahmoud Alavi.
Russia estimates there may now be as many as 10,000 IS fighters in Afghanistan and their ranks are being filled by fighters fleeing Syria and Iraq. Moscow is especially worried about the presence of these fighters in northern Afghan provinces bordering Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, and says that locals have also spotted Algerian and French fighters among IS ranks in the provinces of Jowzjan and Sar-e-Pol.
Earlier this month while addressing Tehran’s Seminar on Terrorism, Extremism and Regional Security in West Asia, Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi, reiterated Moscow’s observations on IS fighters coming from Syria and Iraq. “IS has lost land, but has not surrendered its arms, and is looking for land in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia in order to, in this way, revive the idea of the Islamic caliphate,” Alavi explained.
Should Russian estimates of 10,000 IS fighters prove accurate then it marks a substantial increase on US initial estimates of 3,000 which it then claimed had been reduced to as few as 700 because of its counter-terrorism operations.
In its latest report published this month entitled ‘Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan’, the US Defence Department while still insisting that IS was ‘weakened’, acknowledged that the group “will most likely continue to plan and execute high profile attacks in populated areas.” Last Thursday’s attack in Kabul is a case in point and again underscores IS’s deliberate strategy of stoking sectarian conflict. Since early 2016, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has documented a sharp increase in the number of attacks on Shi’ite civilians and places of worship.
The Taliban, which is more concerned with how its violence is perceived by the public, generally abstains from targeting mosques or other gatherings of Shi’ite Muslims. As 2017 closes Washington will perhaps have to think again about what lies ahead in Afghanistan. US officials estimate the number of troops in the country could reach nearly 16,000 by early next year almost double the number stationed there when former President Barack Obama left office.
This coming year too in July, Afghanistan will see parliamentary elections and almost certainly violence will escalate dramatically between now and then. With the Taliban already well ensconced in swathes of the country and IS seemingly digging in for a long war of attrition, Afghanistan and its long suffering people look set to be in for an even more difficult and bloody year ahead.

#Pakistan - Gaps in diplomacy should be filled: Sherry Rehman

Former ambassador the US and PPP Senator Sherry Rehman pointed to the gaps in Pakistan's foreign policy, which she said were the foremost reason Pakistan was in a difficult situation internationally.
Due to the lack of a dedicated lobbyist in the US and a foreign minister, Pakistan had left the ground completely for four years, Rehman said.
"The gaps should be filled. The world can see the lack of governance and is taking advantage of how Pakistan has not responded."
She said Pakistan needs to have a balanced stance and neither be too aggressive nor too defensive in formulating a reply to the US.
"It is very difficult to move forward in this kind of environment," she said, adding that she could foresee a new era of foreign policy where "such things are said and such demands are made."
"There is also a lot of confusion on the American side and things will keep on getting worse if sober voices in the US do not control this," she added.

Pakistan - Shah slams Govt for hiking prices of petroleum products

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Monday slammed the government for hiking the prices of petroleum products , terming the increase failure of its policies.
Speaking to the media, Shah lamented that the latest increase in fuel prices will trouble already hard-pressed public. He said the government had shifted the burden of internal and external borrowings onto the public.
Shah laughed off the government’s claims of having shored up foreign reserves, questioning the veracity of such claims. The government had already been collecting illegitimate taxes on the petroleum products and the recent increase would unleash a storm of inflation in the country, the opposition leader said.
The PPP will not allow the government to oppress the people and will expose its hollow claims. He demanded that the old prices of the petroleum products should immediately be restored.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi approved an increase in the prices of petroleum products on the recommendation of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Takfiri Deobandi Terrorism remained the biggest threat for all peaceful communities in 2017- Annual Review 2017

Note: This review has been compiled through considering many web-news sites and with help of those data provided Shiite news and human rights organizations.
Takfiris terrorists banned Deobandi militant outfits continued to attack Shia mosques, Sufi shrines, Ahmadi worship place and Christian’s church alongside massacring innocent people from Parachinar to Dera Ismail Khan to Quetta throughout 2017.
We can see trend of obfuscation of deobandi Takfiri identity of perpetrators of slow Shia-genocide in Pakistan while reviewing faith based terrorism in Pakistan.
Eidgah Market, Parachinar – January 21
The beginning of 2017 saw a deadly attack in Eidgah Market in Shia majority Parachinar city of Kurram Agency. Shia Muslims had gathered to buy and sell fruits and vegetables in the agency’s major town when a powerful explosion struck leaving more than 25 Shia Muslims dead and over 60 injured.
The wounded were rushed to Agency Headquarters Hospital, but those with critical injuries had to be shifted to Peshawar as the facility in Parachinar lacked the material required for proper treatment.
However, the state of the hospital in Parachinar remained the same during emergency situations in the explosions that followed.
Charring Cross, Lahore – February 13
In February, Lahore fell target to terrorist designs when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest near the Punjab Assembly as hundreds of people gathered for a protest.
The Lahore blast claimed the lives of at least 14 people, including senior police officers.
The protest near the Punjab Assembly was being held by chemists and owners of medical stores against the drug rules imposed by the provincial government.
Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine, Sehwan – February 16
Hardly three days had passed since the Lahore incident when another powerful explosion took place in Sehwan city. On the evening of February 16, hundreds had gathered at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar for the dhamaal – the place was jam-packed when a loud blast occurred.
The incident left at least 90 people dead and over 300 injured. Just like Parachinar, in Sehwan too, there was no proper health facility where blast victims could be treated, compounding the agony of the victims and their families.
Parachinar Shia Mosque/Imam Bargah – March 31
On March 31, terror returned to yet again to Parachinar. A busy marketplace outside a Shia mosque Imam Bargah was targeted by a powerful bomb explosion, killing at least 24 Shia Muslims and leaving 90 others injured.
This time too, locals said the injured persons and their attendants were faced with difficulties at the Agency Headquarters Hospital Parachinar due to the dearth of medical facilities and staff.
Bedian Road, Lahore – April 5
In April, Lahore was once again targetted by terrorists, this time a census team, escorted by Pakistan Army was the target.
At least six people were killed and 15 others were wounded when a suicide bomber detonated its explosives on Lahore’s Bedian Road.
While speaking to Geo News, a spokesperson for the Punjab government, Malik Ahmed Khan, had said the target seemed to be the census team and the soldiers accompanying them.
Mastung, Balochistan – May 12
In May, it was Balochistan that became the target of terror attacks not once, but multiple times in the months which followed.
On May 12, a suicide bomb blast targetting the convoy of a senior politician in Balochistan killed at least 27 people while 30 others were injured.
The incident occurred in Mastung district of the province — not very far from the provincial capital — where a vehicle carrying Senate Deputy Chairperson Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was struck by the blast.
The targetted person, Haideri, escaped the attack with light injuries but his driver and an aide were killed.
Turi Bazaar, Parachinar – June 24
For the third time in the year, another major attack took place in Parachinar, Kurram Agency.
This time, twin blasts occurred in the bustling Turi Bazaar area of Parachinar, where Shia Muslims were shopping for iftar and Eid, which was to be celebrated in most parts of the country the following day.
At least 45 Shia Muslims were killed and 300 others were wounded in the explosion. While speaking about the incident, a local official, Nasrullah Khan, had said the first explosive device detonated when the market was crowded with shoppers. He added the second blast took place when people rushed to the site to rescue the wounded. The twin blasts hit Parachinar just a day before Eid despite security arrangements being in place in the area.
Kot Lakhpat Lahore Sabzi Mandi, Lahore – July 24
In July, it was Lahore again, when an explosion in a busy vegetable market claimed lives of at least 26 people, including nine policemen.
The attack was a suicide blast, the bomber detonated his explosives amid a crowd in Kot Lakhpat Sabzi Mandi near Arfa Karim Software Technology Park on July 24.
The explosion came a few days after the Army started its operation, Khyber IV, in Rajgal Valley of Khyber Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Pishin bus stop, Quetta – August 13
After Eid celebrations were marred by violence, an attempt was also made ahead of Independence Day, with a huge suicide explosion targetting Pakistan Army personnel in Quetta.
At least eight army men were martyred and seven civilians killed in the blast that took place in a vehicle at Pishin bus stop on August 13.
The subsequent fire caused by the explosion took the surrounding vehicles into its folds.
Jhal Magsi shrine, Balochistan – October 5
After a month’s lull, the people of Balochistan witnessed terrorism once again, a suicide blast at Fatehpur shrine in Jhal Magsi district of the province on October targeted worshippers as they visited a Sufi shrine.
At least 20 people were killed and 33 others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up after he was intercepted by police guards on duty outside the shrine.
It was said that the shrine was packed with people at the time of the incident – many had gathered to attend the anniversary celebrations of Syed Cheezal Shah.
Directorate of Agriculture Extension, Peshawar – December 1
As the year neared its end, a students’ hostel was targeted in Peshawar, leaving nine dead and more than 30 injured.
Early in the morning on December 1, Directorate of Agriculture Extension on University Road, Peshawar was attacked by terrorists.
SSP Operations Sajjad Khan said five attackers wearing suicide jackets reached the compound in a rickshaw.
They were said to be wearing burqas in the rickshaw so as to avoid detection.
The police official said the attackers’ first target was the security guard of the premises, following which they made their way inside towards the students’ hostel of the Agriculture Training Institute, attacking whoever crossed their path.
Bethel Memorial Methodist Church, Quetta – December 17
A church in Quetta was attacked in the week leading up to Christmas, killing nine and injuring at least 50 others.
Bethel Memorial Methodist Church was hit by terrorists when a service was underway with at least 400 people in the hall for prayers.
Although the security personnel managed to stop the terrorist from wreaking havoc inside the church, families who lost their loved ones were left devastated regardless, not being able to celebrate Christmas the way they would have wanted to.
Shia Killings in Dera Ismail Khan-KPK
According to daily Pakistan Today,on 25 February,2017, At least three shia persons became victims of target killing in a village of Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday morning.
The violent act occurred at the village Ghosar in tehsil Parwa. In reaction, people of the area blocked the Indus highway for traffic. Police official said that three friends namely Ali Zafar, Saqlain and Jamil were on a walk to fields late on Sunday morning when they were ambushed by unknown armed persons.
The armed persons opened indiscriminate firing killing all three on the spot, and the assailants succeeded in escaping on a motorbike.
Mukhtiar—father of Saqlain; a leading figure of Shia community—had also been a victim of target killing. This act is considered a continuation of Shia genocide by #ASWJ aka #SSP aka #LeJ in DI Khan.
On 11 August,2017, Another Shia notable of Dera Ismail Khan embraced martyrdom due to firing of proscribed ASWJ terrorists on Sunday. The Shia Muslims’ martyrdom toll in this district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose to 3 in three days as two Shia policemen were gunned down on Friday.
On November 21,2017, A prominent local Shia poet was gunned down here on Tuesday in Dera Ismail Khan-KPK
Terrorists of Takfiri Deobandi organization #ASWJ aka #SSP aka #LeJ opened fire on Sabir Hussain Sabir, a poet and narrator who spoke at religious gatherings, when he was sitting at his shop near Chodwan Morr in Parwa tehsil. His funeral prayers were offered at the Cha Syed Munawar Imambargh in Dera Ismail Khan. During the last one week, three persons belonging to the Shia sect were target-killed in the district. The fresh incidents of target killings have created a sense of fear among the people.
Shia Target killing in Islamabad in Month of November, 2017:
On 28th November 2017, at least three Shia people were killed and five injured in firing by Takfiri Deobandi terrorists outside in Shia mosque in Islamabad.
Surprisingly South Asia Terrorism Portal’s official website did not mention this attack on mass under category of ‘sectarian attacks on mosque in Pakistan’. Its chart shows only one incident of sectarian attack in mosque which had occurred in Lahore where Takfiri Deobandi terrorist organization opened fire on a car in Sabzazar colony area in Lahore but that was not attack on Ahmadiyya worship place.
This happened on 7 April, 2017.

Pakistan pre-empts UN-banned group activities in capital

The Associated Press

Authorities in the Pakistani capital has imposed a temporary law pre-empting the activities of groups banned on a U.N. watch list for terrorist activity.
Mushtaq Ahmed, a top Islamabad administrator, in an order released Monday says the law has been imposed for two months in the capital after reports some organizations and their affiliates on the U.N. list have been collecting funds, holding religious, political and social functions and displaying promotional banners.
The order doesn’t name any group but it comes after recent rallies by the banned organization Jamaat-ud-Dawa. JuD is believed to be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba which was blamed for the November 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.
Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has a $10 million bounty on his head by the U.S.

Donald Trump: Pakistan Has Given U.S. 'Nothing But Lies and Deceit'

By KATHY GANNON

President Donald Trump slammed Pakistan for ‘lies & deceit’ in a New Year’s Day tweet that said Islamabad had played U.S. leaders for ‘fools.’
‘No more,’ Trump tweeted.
Trump in his tweet said the U.S. had given Pakistan $33 billion in the last 15 years, yet Afghanistan and the U.S. have long accused Pakistan of providing safe havens for militants. Meanwhile, Pakistan had no official comment but Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted that his government was preparing a response that ‘will let the world know the truth.’
Pakistan’s Urdu language Geo Television quoted Asif as saying: “We have already said ‘no more’ to America, so Trump’s ‘no more’ has no importance. We are ready to give all account for every single penny to America in public.” Asif said Trump’s tweet was borne out of frustration and that the United States should pursue dialogue with Afghanistan’s insurgents rather than military force.
“America is frustrated over defeat in Afghanistan. America should take the path of dialogue instead of using military might in Afghanistan,” Asif was quoted as saying.
The Afghan Ambassador to the U.S. Hamdullah Mohib welcomed Trump’s tweet.
“A promising message to Afghans who have suffered at the hands of terrorists based in Pakistan for far too long,” Mohib tweeted.
The uneasy relationship between the United States and Pakistan has been on a downward spiral since the 2011 U.S. operation that located and killed Osama bin Laden in the military garrison town of Abbottabad. Trump ratcheted up the pressure last year when he announced his Afghan strategy that called out Pakistan for harboring Afghan Taliban insurgents warning it would have to end.
Vice President Mike Pence in a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Dec. 22 said the U.S. administration was putting Pakistan on notice to end its support for Taliban insurgents, a comment that generated a chorus of criticism from the Pakistani civilian and military establishment, which has denied harboring Afghan militants.
In a news conference last Thursday the Pakistani military spokesman, Gen. Asif Ghafoor said Pakistan wouldn’t bow to coercion.
“What kind of friends are we that we are being given notices?” he asked at the news conference.
Much of the money Pakistan has received from the U.S. has been through its Coalition Support Funds which gives money to its coalition partners in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pakistan has been one of the largest recipients.
“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools,” Trump tweeted. “They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”
Ghafoor denied that Pakistan allowed training camps or organizational headquarters on its territory.
“We have started the construction of forts and posts on the Afghan border for effective border management — what more does the U.S. and Afghanistan want from us?” Ghafoor was quoted by the English-language Dawn newspaper as saying at the news conference.
Yet Afghanistan and the U.S. have long accused Pakistan of providing safe havens and Pakistan’s former adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz had previously publicly stated that Afghan militants have been living for decades in Pakistan. The Taliban are believed to run several leadership councils out of Pakistan, in southwestern Quetta and northwestern Peshawar, two cities on the border with Afghanistan
Meanwhile, Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of harboring its militants and has sent a list of wanted terrorist to the Afghan government demanding they be returned. Kabul too sent a list of wanted insurgents to Islamabad as well as locations of training camps.

Pakistan - Zardari on Sharifs' Saudi visits: ‘No one knows what is cooking’

Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Monday commenting on the Sharif brothers' visit to Saudi Arabia said that an agreement might be “cooking” in the country.
“No one knows what is cooking. There are a couple of rumours surrounding their visits to Saudi Arabia,” he said while talking to media.
Rumour mill has it that the motive behind the visits could be to negotiate a deal or to save their assets, Zardari added.
The former president, however, added that “we respect Saudi Arabia, it is our brotherly state” but added that Pakistan shouldn’t take directives from them.
“At least our government did not,” he said.
The Sharif brothers’ multiple visits to Saudi Arabia have resulted in criticism by opposition parties. PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have questioned the reasons behind the visit.
Earlier today PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan claimed that former premier Nawaz Sharif and brother Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif are undergoing a “conflict”, explaining that Nawaz is fearful of the latter meeting with senior Saudi officials.
Talking to the media here, the PPP leader said that Nawaz did not go to Saudi Arabia on the Kingdom's invitation.
“Shehbaz must have called him, and told him he was meeting senior [Saudi] officials. So Nawaz panicked and travelled to Saudi Arabia,” the PPP leader conjectured.
However, PML-N leaders have refuted the allegations, saying that Nawaz has had longstanding ties with the Saudis.
Yesterday, Nawaz’s spokesman condemned as “baseless” reports that the PML-N chied he is in contact with Saudi Arabia to escape accountability, and said Nawaz accepted court verdicts and is facing cases.

#Pakistan - Govt dropped ‘inflation bomb’ on New Year: Bilawal slams hike in fuel prices

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari slammed the hike in fuel prices on New Year and remarked that the government dropped an ‘inflation bomb’ on the nation.
He further remarked that the government is resorting to open rivalry and robbing the people of their due rights.
Reacting to the remarks, PM’s Adviser on Finance Miftah Ismail said that the price of petrol on March 1, 2013, was Rs106.60.
“The inflation bomb was dropped by PPP and not PML-N,” he added.
