Pakistan - PPP backs establishment of military courts

Senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan said that his party has extended its support for the establishment of military courts for speedy trial of terrorists.
Ahsan said PPP has endorsed the all-party decision to set up special tribunals which will be headed by military officers.
The decision came after Aitzaz consulted PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, who reportedly announced his support of military courts but only under a new name.
Earlier, JI leader Farid Paracha said that his party was not against military courts. He said that military courts should be set up within the ambit of constitution.
Imran Khan’s PTI, PML-N, National Party, Qaumi Watan Party and PML-Q have already supported the speedy trial courts.
JUI-F chief Maualana Fazlur Rehman said that he would support the creation of military courts if all parties evolved a consensus. “We will support military courts if they are supported by legal and constitutional experts of all parties,” said JUI-F leader Fazlur Rehman.
