Sindh Assembly passes resolution against Kalabagh Dam

Member of Sindh Assembly from Pakistan People’s Party Imran Zafar Laghari presented the resolution during the session.
MPA from Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Khalid Ahmed said that the proposal for Kala Bagh Dam was presented for the first time in 1960 and was immediately rejected. An alternative plan for the country should be worked out in place of Kala Bagh Dam, he maintained. Speaker Nisar Khoro chaired the session of Sindh Assembly, and expressed anger over the rowdy behaviour of the MPAs while the resolution was being presented. PPP’s Sikander Mandro said that some powers want to make Kala Bagh Dam a bone of contention among the four provinces, which can result in chaos. Imran Zafar Laghari said that the big provinces should not make such decisions that might lead to dismemberment of the country. Talking to media men before the session of Sindh Assembly, Manzoor Wassan said that when the province of Punjab raises the issue of Kala Bagh Dam, it hurts him. He noted that three provinces have already approved the resolution against Kala Bagh Dam and Punjab should act like ‘elder brother’ in the real sense. About the decision of the Supreme Court regarding verification of voters, Manzoor Wassan stated that he respects the court’s ruling in this regard.
