Bannu attack: Senior police officers suspended


Initial report has been forwarded to additional IG, regional police officers and commissioners.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Haider Khan Hoti has suspended Inspector General of Police (IG) Bannu central jail, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Commissioner Bannu along with the superintendent of jail following the attack on Bannu jail.

The initial investigation report has blamed the security forces for the attack on Bannu jail.
According to the report, the attack was plotted by Taliban to release the prisoners being sentenced for making an attempt to assassin former president Pervez Musharraf.
The investigation report says that over hundred assailants targeted the central gate of the jail and fired explosives including rockets on the main gate.
The initial report stated that it was an incident due to the negligence of the personnel who were on duty at the time of attack. Five women were also among the 384 prisoners who managed to escape in the attack.
The investigation team told the mobile phone data of all the personnel who were deployed for internal and external security is also being recorded.According to sources, the initial report has been forwarded to additional IG, regional police officers and commissioners.
