Bashir Bilour survives attempt on life



PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD ( 2009-03-11 17:08:53 ) :Senior NWFP Minister and ANP leader Bashir Ahmed Bilour Wednesday survived unhurt an attempt on his life when some unknown assailants opened fire on him, police and family sources said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the assassination bid on the life of Bashir Bilour.

In a message from Tehran, President Zardari strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the ANP leader.

The President and Prime Minister said the government will bring the perpetrators of the reprehensible attack to justice.

They said such attacks will not weaken the resolve of the government to fight against terrorism and extremism, which is posing a threat to fabric of the society.

One person was injured in the firing incident that occurred in congested Namak Mandi bazaar, the sources said.

Family sources said the minister was in Namak Mandi for inauguration of a development project in his constituency when the assailants fired on him just as he was to enter his vehicle.

Security personnel pushed the minister into the vehicle and safely took him to his residence. The attackers managed to flee the scene.
