PUNJAB CRACKDOWN

LAHORE: In order to hinder lawyers’ long march and sit-in, police on early Wednesday have launched crackdown against lawyers and opposition leaders in several Punjab districts including Lahore, Geo News reported.

Meanwhile, police have been ordered for home confinement of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Imran Khan.

According to police sources, many activists belonging to PML-N and Jamat-e-Islami have been apprehended during raids on their homes while gigantic containers have been brought as barrier on the way of lawyers’ long march and sit-in.

Police carried out several raids on homes and offices of Jamat-e-Islami workers in Lahore and PML-N’s members Punjab assembly including Bilal Yasin, Waseem Ahmed and Secretary Nawaz Sharif Khwaja Imran Nazir and political Secretary Shahbaz Sharif Noshad Hameed but all succeeded to flee and have gone in hiding, sources said.

Police also raided in Vihari, Gujranwala, Shaikhupura, Faisalabad and Sialkot, sources added.
